Daguerreotypes

Daguerreotypes involved a piece of metal that was coated with silver nitrates, which then was exposed to light. As the technology developed, other means besides metal were used in photography. When paper was introduced in 1860s, popular photography method started to change. Chemicals were still brushed on a medium, but instead of metal, the pictures were exposed on glass.

Then, the glass negative was transferred to a paper positive, which resulted in wet plate photography. The name referred to the process as the plate should be washed with water so the negative could work. When modern cameras were invented in the early 1900s, this popular photography method lost its status.

The film camera is a popular current photography method, although it has been overshadowed by digital photography when it was introduced a few years ago. People want to see pictures immediately after being taken, instead of having to wait until the pictures are developed. Waiting for the photographs to be developed can be tedious, but with digital photography, we can immediately see and delete the pictures as we like.
