The History Of Photography Started In The 11th Century
The history of photography started in the 11th century when Iraqi scientist invented the camera obscura. This is an instrument that has a darkened chamber or box into which light is admitted through a convex lens, which will form an image on a surface of paper or other materials at the focus of the lens. The development continued and a portable camera obscura was built in the 17th century. In the 1826 the first permanent photograph was taken and this year is considered as the birth of photography. Before this time, there was no way to preserve images that were produced by cameras. Another ancient camera is the pinhole camera. It uses a small hole to view an area with the image is showed in the back of the box where it is located. There is a claim that early pinhole cameras were used by artists to trace the image that appeared on the inner walls. Basically a small hole was cut on the wall of a darkened room and the image that was reflected on the opposite wall was painted over by the artist. It is argued that many paintings were made with this method and thus contributing to the history of photography. Further experimentation uses silver on a copper plate where it produced the first daguerreotype prints. This method is commonly used to take royal portraits. The history of photography continues to 1840 when the first intermediate negatives were produced and thus allowing for printing a positive image. The development of photography was a bit stalled after this period because this latest development was patented so the growth of photographic negatives and enlargements was slowed as well. The first color images were produced in 1861, although there was a problem to make the silver solutions to produce green and blue. The technique has improved considerably and the problem was solved by using three glass negatives, one for each primary color. A color image was produced when the photographer brought the print together. This period of the history of photography was perhaps the most significant period as many changes happened and cameras started becoming available to many people. The first digital image was invented in 1973 using a charge-couple device (CCD) that contained an image of 100 rows and 100 columns. CCD is the basic of current digital photography and further research by Kodak has successfully developed the magapixel sensor in 1986. After this period, the history of photography has progressed rapidly into today's photographic era. It seems that the history of photography started many centuries ago, especially if we consider the period of pinhole camera. However, as it is known today, the history of photography is perhaps only 200 years old. Furthermore, only the last few decades that recent innovations have made photography as one of the most popular hobbies in the world.
