This is completely the opposite of architectural photography as in this case the building or the structure itself is the picture. Newer and modern structures can be photographed in detail, but architectural photography has a different view. For example, old barns and houses are photographed from a distance. It is essential to understand the age and mystique of these structures in relation to the surrounding space and environment. However, in many cases, the structures are dominating the picture on all sides. They are the picture and nothing should deflect the focus from them.

Telephoto lenses are ideal to create composition and perspective. When you compress the distance into a spot of focus, you can see patterns and contracts that are not visible to the naked eye. Telephoto lenses can challenge your mind by bringing abstraction to life. The sums of the parts are frequently larger that the whole in the case of architectural photography.

Weather, sunlight, clouds, fences, and shadows can bring interesting elements to architectural photography without changing the focus of the images. Obviously the structure is the vital figure, but the surrounding can change the building, which in the end affects the entire feeling of the photograph. For example, you can photograph the same building in different seasons and it will produce different feelings as well.
